As teacher we must know how to discipline our students when we are teaching any lesson. I want to show you a technique that is called “The focusing technique” in order to have a better classroom discipline. First, we need to have the attention of everyone in your classroom before we start our lesson. Second, do not intent to teach over the chatter of students who are not paying attention. Third, be careful with this, we as teachers sometimes guess that by beginning our lesson, the class will calm down. But, teens will see that things are underway now and it is time to go to work. Sometimes this works, but teens are also going to think that you are willing to compete with them, that you don’t mind talking while they talk, or that you are willing to speak louder so that they can finish their conversation even after you have started the lesson. They get the idea that you accept their inattention and that it is permissible to talk while you are presenting a lesson. To conclude with this technique, I would like to say what this means. The focusing technique means that you will demand their attention before you begin. It means that you will wait and not start until everyone has calm down. Therefore, as teachers we must know that silence on their part is very effective. So that, we will punctuate their waiting by extending it 3 to 5 seconds after the classroom is completely quiet. Then, we can begin our lesson using a quieter voice than normal. Also, take into account that a soft spoken teacher often has a calmer, quieter classroom than one with a stronger voice. Her students sit still in order to hear what she says.
Monday, February 24th, 2014.
This class was
oriented to find out what students already know from English. Also, it was time
to face new students, but this time were teens’ like to work with them. The
first activity from this diagnostic class was: I pasted a colored paper in the
center of the board with the title “English words”, and then Students wrote in
the board some English words that they already know. Then, volunteers will read
some English words and meaning. I could see that they know some words in
English and I consider that was something that helped me to continue with the
class. The warm-up activity was oriented to say the name and last name, they
like it, because they were asking their names.
The second activity from that day was “The alphabet.” Students were saying the alphabet and they practice the pronunciation of it. Then, they did some exercises related to the alphabet. (Circle the correct letter). Therefore, they were spelling some names in order to practice the alphabet that was nice to see all students practicing and having fun with the alphabet. The third activity was related to numbers, students were reviewing the numbers from 0 to 20, and I used a bag with all the numbers, they took the numbers from the bag and they pasted on the board, when all the students pasted a number they started to say the number in a choral repetition. Also, students did some exercises on a worksheet, they did some listening about numbers.
The fourth activity was related to colors. In ordered to practice I put some colored papers on the board and students said the pronunciation of the color and I made some corrections to them when they had a mispronunciation. Then, they did some exercises related to colors and number that was a nice practice because students at the same time internalize both colors and numbers. As conclusion, this diagnostic class was amazing, I enjoyed every moment in this class. Also, at the end you will see my lesson plan.

Friday. February 28th, 2014.
I started the class
with a warm-up called “Spelling the words and say the number”. Students
reviewed the previous lesson, they enjoy this activity because if they did a mistakes
all the classmates correct hem/her, that was nice because I could see that they
acquire something from the previous lesson.
I introduced the new
vocabulary related to countries and nationalities with some flags and the name
of the countries. Students practice the pronunciation of the countries, they
did a good job, I just correct them the ones that were difficult for them like
Russia, Brazil and The United Kingdom. So, they practice the pronunciation
until they got familiar with the word and that helped them to remember the
correct pronunciation and the countries.
The second activity a memory game, in which students chosen a number and they need to match the flag with the correct nationality. They enjoyed this activity because they participated during the whole activity. Also, they practice the correct pronunciation of the nationality of the countries presented.so that, they practice the pronunciation of the countries and the nationalities and they did a very good job and I considered that those type of activities help students in their learning process.
The third activity was relate to an instant chat in which they listen to some friends chatting on the web. They were doing some fill in the blanks exercise from a worksheet, and they were ask to listen to the nationalities and the countries of the friend. Then they share their answers with a partner and then with the whole group.
The last activity foe
this lesson was a song that is called “Friends Everywhere”, students were doing
some fill in the blanks exercise in order to complete the song, they listen to
the track many times in order to get the missing words. Then, they share their
answer and they practice the song.as conclusion they were able to internalize
the target vocabulary that will helped then for the next classes and they
learned the target vocabulary with some unusual activities that helped them to
internalize it. Also at the end you will see my lesson plan.
